Mayor Anita Sharma has alleged that the Haridwar municipal corporation has corporation has incurred a loss of around Rs 40 lakh in the past one- and-a-half years due to an advertisement scam.
Sharma said a surveyconducted by her found that an advertising agency hired by the civic body to place advertisements on 89 poles in the city exceeded its brief and placed advertisements on 139 poles. The advertising agency pocketed the extra money,
she said. “I raised this issue before the municipal commissioner, but he did not take the matter seriously. After which, I personally conducted a survey and took pictures of every pole and submitted a report to the commissioner,” Sharma told TOI.
Municipal commissioner Dayanand Sarasvati ordered action on the mayor’s report. Sarasvati told TOI, “A committee is formed to take the action. Extra poles will be removed.
As far as revenue losses are concerned, this committee is responsible for taking further action as per law.”
